The main story

Three ages. Three different decisions.

Singapore’s retirement framework uses several milestones. They sound similar, but each answers a different question.

What changed?

The minimum retirement age moved to 64 and the re-employment age to 69. These milestones concern work and employment protection.

What stayed the same?

CPF payout eligibility remains at 65 for the relevant cohorts. A member may consider starting then or deferring within the permitted window.

Retirement age is about employment. Payout eligibility age is about when retirement income may begin.

What should families review?

Bring expected expenses, other income, healthcare, housing commitments and work plans into one conversation. A timeline can make gaps easier to see.

Common questions

Answers in plain English

No. Employment retirement age and CPF payout eligibility are separate milestones.

Reaching payout eligibility does not necessarily mean a person must stop working.

There is no single answer. Income needs, health, savings and preferences all matter.
